An approval is the validation by the manufacturer that the product (lubricant, coolant, etc.) meets all of the criteria and requirements set out in very precise specifications. WHAT IS A FLEET TEST?
RENAULT TRUCKS FLEET TEST FOR MAXEON RLD-5 APPROVAL
To approve a new lubricant, in 2017 we launched a fleet test on 4 new engines, which are rigorously monitored at each stage by the RENAULT TRUCKS teams.
OBJECTIVES:
- Increase the oil change interval (+50%),
- Reduce fuel consumption by up to 3.5%,
- Keep the engine clean.
HOW IS THE FLEET TEST VALIDATED?
For each engine, we follow 6 vehicles which all travel the same number of kilometres (300,000 km for the 11L and 13L, 200,000 km for the 8L and 150,000 km for the 5L).
We perform regular engine oil tests (every 20,000 km for 13L and 11L, every 10,000 km for 8L and 5L) to confirm the lubricant’s good performance throughout the oil change interval, but also to monitor the engine’s condition during the test. To validate the fleet test, we dismantle 3 engines from each engine type, i.e. 12 engines in total, to inspect and rate their wear and deposits accumulated during driving.
